MIDDLEGROUND
by Markel Randle (Kansas City, MO)
This photo essay responds to Shelley Washington’s Middleground, exploring memory, movement, and self-discovery through photographs made entirely from within a vehicle.
Through photographs made between destinations, the series considers the car as a space of transition and contemplation, where conversations unfold, memories surface, and time feels suspended.
Featured in the project titled “Meet in the Middle”, an exhibition full of photographic interpretations of classical music created by Black midwestern composers.
